Internal Pelvic Release Work

The pelvis can hold both physical and emotional tension.

Soft tissue connections play a crucial role in supporting all organs, particularly within the pelvic region, safeguarding a woman's reproductive system. Tension, arising from diverse sources such as injuries, habitual postures, or lifestyle factors, can significantly impact movement and may even harbor emotional residues. In the therapeutic realm of pelvic release sessions, tension is systematically identified and delicately addressed through precise tactile interventions, promoting relaxation and the emergence of newfound space within the pelvic cavity.

The vagina, renowned for its remarkable elasticity, serves as a gateway to vital soft tissue connections. While conventional examinations mainly focus on pelvic floor function, deeper exploration of the posterior wall unveils access to critical structures responsible for skeletal and organ support. Through gentle manual techniques and controlled breathing exercises, clinicians can effectively alleviate tension within ligaments, muscles, and fascia, thereby fostering optimal pelvic health and function.

Janine undertook a yearlong mentorship with midwife, Fiona Hallinan from The Pelvic Space, who has been working with women for over 30 years. She has since been working alongside Fiona at her clinic and is now excited to offer this work to woman at Femme Physio.

This work is invaluable for women with many conditions including chronic pelvic pain, prolapse, pelvic floor dysfunction, scar tissue concerns and also extremely valuable for preparing the body for birth.

The unique ability to combining this work with physiotherapy knowledge brings a deeper level or understanding to the body and provides much needed support to women in times on need

What is involved in a session?

A 90 minute session is advised to ensure time and care.  This includes:

  • A discussion on pelvic anatomy to support a woman’s knowledge of her pelvic space, pelvic bones and pelvic soft tissues.

  • An exploration and gentle release of tension in the soft tissue connections – ligaments, muscles, fascia – felt through the back wall of the vagina.

  • Guidance with ‘how to continue with self-care and further release work by the woman or with her partner’s support.

  • Sharing other modes of releasing tension, e.g. bum jiggling and techniques that cultivate balance within the pelvis and womb.
