Janine is a dedicated physiotherapist with over 18 years’ experience. She is also a trained birth doula and mother to three young children. Through her understanding of the body as a physiotherapist and experience working with women in birth as a doula, Janine works to support women in a thorough, evidence based, and caring way. Janine graduated from Melbourne University as a physiotherapist and went on to complete her Masters of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. She has experience in private practice and clinical Pilates, as well as in major public hospitals. This work has equipped her to support patients with complex orthopaedic conditions and pelvic and spinal pain. After becoming a mother, Janine’s interests shifted towards supporting other mothers, and she went on to train in women’s health physiotherapy. Her special combination of musculoskeletal physiotherapy experience and women’s health training allows Janine to utilise her skills to help manage a variety of conditions that can arise in a woman’s lifetime. Janine understands the strong link between the pelvic floor and the rest of the body and takes a holistic approach to treatment. In addition to her formal studies in physiotherapy, Janine has completed an extensive mentorship with Fiona Hallinan, an experienced midwife and educator in and internal pelvic release work. This work is a powerful modality that combines body work both externally and internally (via the posterior wall of the vagina) for birth preparation, recovery, pelvic pain conditions, as well as to support management of prolapse and pelvic floor retraining. Janine complements her practice with academic research. Her non-clinical work includes joint authorship of a recently submitted qualitative study conducted through Latrobe University, looking into labour pain and what birth strategies woman plan to use during labour.
